In honor of National Nutrition Month and in an attempt to eat more vegetables I decided to jump on the spiralizer bandwagon. Several years ago I tried one of the cylindrical spiralizers and the razor broke off the first time I used it. Highly disappointing (not to mention a little dangerous)! I had almost given up on the idea of creating my own zoodles and swoodles but this little guy kept catching my eye every time I walked past the display at the store.
I picked up the Veggetti Pro mainly for the delicious looking sweet potato fries shown on the box and because it looked like a sturdy design. I couldn’t wait to get it home and try out the veggies I had on hand. This time I wasn’t disappointed! Here are some of the features I love:
- It’s easy to assemble and disassemble, also making it…
- Easy to clean! All parts are top rack dishwasher safe, except for the base.
- It suctions down to your countertop making it easy to use.
- There are three interchangeable blades (thin spiral, thick spiral and ribbon).
- It’s quick and versatile.
I have made noodles and roasted veggies out of carrots, zucchini, squash, white and sweet potatoes. Once they’re spiralized I just toss them in some oil and roast them in the oven or give them a quick steam and cover with a favorite pasta sauce! One warning. The spiral “fries” will not be like the ones pictured on the box , even with the thick spiral blade. They are more like “shoestring” fries, but tasty all the same! My next experiment will be to see how it works with an apple. Now dreaming of baked cinnamon apple fries…
How do you add more vegetables to your diet? Do you spiralize?
